Early Signs of Pregnancy
by
Gloria Liven
Are you thinking "could
I be pregnant"? These are some of the early signs of pregnancy. Please
note that every pregancy is different and can have different signs, and
you should take a pregnancy test and contact your doctor if you think
you could be pregnant.
Missed period
Often women realize they are pregnant after they miss a period. However,
you can also have a missed period for other reasons too, such as stress,
hormonal changes, new medications, changes in diet or weight, etc.
Spotting between
periods
When the embryo implants, it can cause some blood spotting that is different
from a normal period; it is often light and can be pink or brown colored,
and will happen in the first month of pregnancy, before your normal period
should begin.
Nausea and
vomiting
Morning sickness happens early in pregnancy and is common in the first
month. The smells of certain foods can sometimes make women feel nauseous,
or they may avoid certain foods. However, nausea can be caused by many
other things too.
Fatigue or
Mood Swings
This symptom of pregnancy can happen in the first month of pregnancy.
You may experience mood swings or feel iritable. Some women will feel
drained of energy in the first month.
Breast Swelling or Soreness
Your hormones change when you become pregnant, and you can have tender
breasts or notice that they've gotten bigger. Your nipples may become
more sensitive.
Bloating and
Weight Gain
Women often gain weight when pregnant, due to the change in hormones.
Higher Body Temperature
You may not notice it, but when you ovulate your body temperature goes
up a little; and if you're pregnant, it may be an early first-month pregnancy
symptom.
Increased Urination, or Cramping
Hormonal changes can make you have to urinate more often. Some women feel
like they have cramps or have lower back pain, similar to a period, when
they are pregnant.
Darker Nipples
or Areolas
The skin around your nipple can become darker (sometimes as early as a
week into the pregnancy).
Feeling like You're Pregnant
It may sound strange, but women often just "know" or "feel"
pregnant! If you're feeling "different" and think it may be
because your pregnant, you may be right.
