Woman
with Two Vaginas: Bicornuate Uterus
There are differetn degrees of bicornuate uterus, and how severe a woman's malformation is will determine if she will be able to carry a pregnancy to full-term. This is a very rare disorder, estimated to occur in only .1-.5% of women in the US. Bicornuate uterus can have many effects on pregnancy, including pregnacy lost, preterm delivery, and malrepresentation. It can be difficult to diagnose with an ultrasound, and for that reason, many cases are not diagnosed until a woman goes into labor-- in many cases affected women need a C-section due to the baby's position, and it is only then when the uterus's unusual shape is noticed.
