If
a man gets smiled at, is he more or less attractive?
We know that people who smile are seen as more attractive; But can getting smiled at affect how others view you? It might! In a study by Benedict Jones and colleagues at Aberdeen University, subjects were shown images of men's faces and asked to rate how attractive they were. Later, subjects were shown the same group of men's faces, but this time each picture had a woman in it-- some women were smiling at the men, but others were neutral. When participates
rated the men a second time, the women rated the man as more attractive
if a woman was smiling at him, and less attractive if the woman in the
picture was neutral. Perhaps this is because women take social cues and see a desirable man (one that women smile at) as more attractive; but men, on the other hand, may be jealous to see another man getting positive attention. In a dating situation, women might find a guy who's getting more attention more attractive; the opposite might be true, too.
