Inventory : Qualities of Happy Couples
The Enrich Couple Inventory, developed by Olson, Fournier, and Druckman (all Ph.D.'s) is a survey of 195 questions that was given to 21,501 married couples. The results were 5,153 happy couples and 5,127 unhappy couples. Researchers compared
the answers of the happiest couples to the unhappiest, and found some
key differences in those relationships. Researchers say you can predict-- with 93% accuracy-- whether a couple is happy or unhappy by looking at these ten strengths. These are the top qualities of happy couples:
"We feel
very close to each other" (Couple Closeness) "My partner
is seldom too controlling" (Personality comparability) "When
discussing problems, my partner understands my opinions and ideas"
(Conflict Resolution) "I am
completely satisfied with the amount of affection from my partner"
(Affection and Sexuality) "We have
a good balance of leisure time spent together and separately" (Leisure
activities) "My partner's
friends or family rarely interfere with our relationship" (Handling
Friends & Family) "We agree
on how to spend money" (Financial Management) "I am
satisfied with how we express spiritual values and beliefs" (Spiritual
Beliefs) Did you know that
the first two years of a marriage
can predict divorce? See article here. External Link: Enrich Couples Survey.
