Smell More Attractive!
by Gloria Liven

It's well-known that smell plays a part in attraction. Women can find the scent of a man irresistible... or gross. Men can gag walking by a woman doused in perfume, or be excited by subtle scents.

How can a girl or guy smell more attractive? Follow these tips!

  • Don't smoke
Smoking anything will leave a smoky scent on your breath, your clothes, and you. You may not even realize it; if you're around a smell, your body gets used to it and blocks it out. So, if you smoke, quit; and if you don't, don't start!
  • Cut down on greasy & sugary foods
Foods like hamburgers, fast food, red meat, energy drinks, candy, and soda can all lead to oily skin and a bad complexion, and a bad smell. Some of the smelliest guys I know drink energy drinks and eat lots of pizza, and I don't think it's a coincidence.
  • Avoid spicy/garlicy foods
Especially if you know you'll be on a date/out in public. Don't eat anything too spicy, fishy, or garlicy.
  • Eat more fruits/veggies
Fresh food will make your skin clear up and give your body a more pleasant natural smell. Citrus fruits especially are supposed to be good for scent.
  • Drink More Water
Water cleanses the body of gross, smelly toxins. Drink more and you'll be healthier, and look and smell healthier, too.
  • Brush, Floss, Use mouthwas daily
Keeping your mouth clean will make your breath pleasant.
  • Carry/chew gum
Carry minty gum or mints so if you're near someone and you're not sure how your breath is, you can pop one in.
  • If you're overweight, loose weight
Additional weight and body fat seems to contribute to a worse body smell.
  • Shower daily
Seems kind of obvious, right? If you go dirty, you'll smell like it. But some people (and it's usually guys) don't shower well enough.
When you shower, use a body brush and some kind of body wash/shower gel and make sure you scrub yourself really well all over. It will leave you with a clean, pleasant smell. Use a scrubby to clean all the hard-to-reach spots.
  • Wear deodorant
Another obvious one, but you wouldn't believe how many people miss it. Choose a pleasant-smelling deodorant.
  • Don't overdo it with sprays/perfumes/colognes
I've gagged just walking by some people on the street; the smell of their sprays is overwhelming. That's a huge turn-off. Don't use any kind of body sprays, and if you do, please, please do it sparingly.
  • Brush after eating
If you can brush after meals, it will remove stuff thats trapped in your teeth.
  • Skin Lotion
Girls especially like skin lotion, and a little bit can make your skin softer and give off a nice, subtle scent. Some just smell gross like medicine, so sniff before you wear. Consider putting on lotion after you shower. Guys can do this too, there are "manly scented" skin lotions out there.
  • Wear clean clothes
Some people advocate washing your clothes with fabric softener for an added pleasant smell.
  • Deodorize your shoes
If they're smelly, you'll be smelly. So make sure your shoes are regularly cleaned; some people put a fabric softener sheet or baking soda in sneakers to make them smell nice.
  • Wash your hands often
We touch all kinds of icky things every day. Always wash your hands after using the bathroom! It'll give off a clean scent.
  • Natural can be sexy
Women naturally find the smell of men with different immune systems to be sexy; and guys whose immune system is similar to hers don't smell as hot. It's just nature, so guys, do what you can, but realize some women will find your scent more attractive than others.

Girls tend to have better hygeine because they're more concerned with appearance, and as such, tend to smell better. But many girls also tend to overkill, dousing themselves in perfume, scented lotions, scented hair gels, etc. Remember all the stuff you use, from your shampoo to your lotion, is going to add scents to you. Girls especially need to be conscious of what they're wearing and not overkill. I've heard many guys complain about women "stinking" of perfume. So remember, less is often better!
